Here we have a trinket box from the mid 20th century, probably made in Italy as it appears to be of a type that was common at that time. The stone may be alabaster or white onyx, the metal is definitely brass. 7" x 5", and a touch under 3" tall, this is ideal for holding rings, earrings, or other small jewelry in a lovely setting. Note the lion's paws on the bottom!
Alas, this appears to have a history: the back left corner is chipped, and the hinge is bent. This does not affect its functionality, however, as the box closes correctly. There is no other significant damage. Weight is about 3 1/2 pounds, so it is sturdy on a dresser or nightstand. A Valentine's day gift, perhaps?
