droll-designs-23-discontinued-serving-platter
Droll Designs 23" Discontinued Serving Platter

Here is a long and narrow platter made by hand at Droll Designs, a small manufacturer in western Massachusetts. All their pieces are made to order, and had painted, which means that they are all unique. This particular pattern is no longer listed on their website, so we are going to guess that it was made prior to 2009 or so (the company was formed in 1990, so this is not a stretch).

As one would expect with an older ceramic item, there are a few minor chips. However, in this case, by dint of good fortune, all the chips are part of the black and white rim that you can see in the picture, so they almost look like they belong there! The main image area is intact, and the bottom shows only minimal wear. Thus we would term this to be in excellent condition.

The long axis of the platter is just under 24", despite the measurements of most of their similar pieces being 22 1/2". Also, this is 10" wide, not the usual 8". Perhaps this was an anomaly? Whatever the reason, it is a bit larger than usual, and that just makes this piece even MORE unique, if that's even possible. And we think that's pretty cool.
